Colin Cowherd Whiffed on Ravens, Eagles and Steelers in 2020 NFL Predictions

Colin Cowherd went 40-41-2 on his 2020 Blazin’ 5 NFL picks, but also predicted Ravens to go undefeated, Eagles to win NFC East, and Steelers to struggle.

The NFL’s regular season ended but checking on Colin Cowherd‘s choices has not.

Each week, PAOC posts  Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 picks and analysis then reviews them on Monday (or Tuesday). The host of “The Herd” and one of the personalities used to promote the Fox Bet sportsbook app posted a 40-41-2 record for the 2020 NFL season.

Before the NFL kicked off, Cowherd made a number of predictions.

How did they turn out?  We kept the receipts (the Tweets) and compared what he said to what actually happened.

Cowherd’s preseason predictions

  1. The Raiders went 8-8, a one-game improvement from 7-9 in 2019.
  2. With Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in Tampa Bay, the Patriots finished  7-9, their worst record since 2000.
  3. Before he went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 11, Joe Burrow threw for 2,688 yards, 13 TDs and 5 INTs. He was on pace to break Andrew Luck’s rookie record (4,374) for most passing yards.
  4. They did not but the Ravens (11-5) are on a five-game winning streak heading into the playoffs.
  5. Dak Prescott suffered a gruesome leg injury in Week 5 and the Cowboys finished a below-average 6-10.

Cowherd’s other NFL predictions

Ravens will go undefeated

DraftKings offered the market for six teams. The Ravens’ odds to go 16-0 were +2500; only the Kansas City Chiefs (+2200) had better odds.

According to Cowherd, there are three “great rosters” in the NFL this year: San Francisco, Kansas City and Baltimore.

“I’ve never said this in my life, [but] Baltimore is the two scariest things in football: stacked and pissed,” he said. “Lamar Jackson is the only MVP in my lifetime where people have said the following year they think he will regress. Half the league doesn’t buy into Lamar Jackson.”

The Ravens finished 11-5, and the Chiefs 14-2.

Eagles are the class of the NFC East

LOL. The Eagles finished last in a historically awful NFC East.

Patriots will struggle

Cowherd said the Patriots were going to be a “really bad football team” and win 5 or 6 games. The Patriots exceeded Cowherd’s prognostication (7-9).

Trubisky trouble

Cowherd said it was time for the Bears to admit they whiffed on quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and move on.

This looked like an early, easy layup for Cowherd when Trubisky was benched during Week 3 in favor of Nick Foles. But Trubisky got the job back when Foles was injured at the end of November. The 8-8 Bears visit New Orleans during Wild Card weekend as 10-point underdogs.

Wrong on the Steelers

Cowherd forecasted  a 7-9 record for the Steelers.

He continued disrespecting the Steelers calling them the “worst 11-0 team ever” back when they were still undefeated. Pittsburgh won the AFC North and will host the Browns in the Wild Card round as 6-point favorites Sunday night.

Did Colin Cowherd Win? A Winning Week 13 Plus Profit from Steelers Upset

Colin Cowherd ruffled some feathers in his Week 13 NFL Blazin’ 5 picks as he went three for five and cashed in on the Steelers’ upset at Fox Bet.

“I feel great about my picks … really like some underdogs,” Colin Cowherd said before giving out his Week 13 picks.

Maybe he had some good luck pizza.

“I’m in a good mood today. I ate an entire sausage pizza last night, and I’ve never been prouder of myself. I can still feel it. I was stuffed halfway through it but nope … forge ahead,” he said on Friday’s episode of “The Herd.”

Cowherd went 3-2, his best record since Week 10.

Cowherd continues to doubt the Steelers

Colin Cowherd continues to disrespect the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

Before the season, Cowherd forecasted a 16-0 record for the Baltimore Ravens and a sub-.500 7-9 for the Steelers.

On Thursday, you can count Cowherd in the “Steelers are the worst 11-0 team ever” group.

But wait … there is more hate. On Friday’s “The Herd,” Cowherd made playoff predictions based on current standings. In the AFC Divisional round, Cowherd picked the Bills to upset the top-seeded Steelers.

“I think Buffalo does several things well. I’m not sure what the Steelers do well. Now they are banged up. They are talented, but what can they lean on outside of sacks?”

After Washington beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-17, Cowherd gloated about betting Washington +8.5 on the Fox Bet app and went on to list the teams who are better than the Steelers, which included the Patriots and New York Giants.

“You hurt my feelings. I don’t like my feelings hurt, Steelers nation.”

Colin Cowherd defends Wentz

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is getting battered on the field. He’s been sacked a league-high 46 times. His decision-making, practice habits and whether or not it’s time to move on to rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts are other hits that keep coming. Colin Cowherd defended the maligned Wentz.

Wentz was pulled early in the second half of the Packers game with the Eagles trailing 20-3. Jalen Hurts finished the game, and on Tuesday, Pederson named Hurts the starter.

Cleveland Browns (+5.5) vs. Tennessee Titans

Boom Bet: 4X your money if Nick Chubb rushes for 100+ yards and scores a TD.

Cowherd’s pick: Cleveland

Colin’s final score: Titans 28, Browns 26

Cowherd said:

“I like Tennessee, but we are going crazy because they smoked the Colts. Here’s why I like Cleveland: The Brown’s offense is the No. 1 rushing offense in the league, and Nick Chubb has had over 100 yards in five straight games. The Titans defense will make Baker comfortable. They are the worst third down defense in the league and have the 29th most sacks. The Browns are 8-0 when Baker has passer rating over 70. This is a good matchup for Cleveland.”

Actual final score: Browns 41, Titans 35

Did Colin win? Yes

Los Angeles Rams (-3)  vs. Arizona Cardinals

Colin’s pick: Rams

Colin’s final score: Rams 33, Cardinals 27

Cowherd said:

“Everybody is freaking out because the Rams lost to the Niners. It’s a bad matchup for Arizona. The Rams’ defense is top five in everything. The Rams are 6-0 against the Cardinals in the Sean McVay era. He’s got their number. Kyler Murray has played this defense twice and has struggled. Jalen Ramsey is the magic elixir for DeAndre Hopkins. Arizona is the most-penalized team in the league. Kyler Murray is hurt; they are not running the ball with him.”

Actual final score: Rams 38, Cardinals 28

Did Colin win? Yes

New England Patriots (-1) vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Colin’s pick: Patriots

Colin’s final score: Patriots 24, Chargers 20

Cowherd said:

“Bill Belichick is 20-5 against rookie quarterbacks, 7-0 in the last five years. Only Deshaun Watson has thrown for more than 300 yards against the Patriots defense this year. The Chargers defense gives up 28 a game. New England is limited, but they are a fumble away from going to overtime in Buffalo. They beat Arizona. This has been a very interesting team two out of three weeks. This is a coaching mismatch.”

Actual final score: Patriots 45, Chargers 0

Did Colin win? Yes

Philadelphia Eagles (+8.5) vs. Green Bay Packers

Colin’s pick: Eagles

Colin’s final score: Packers 27, Eagles 23

Cowherd said:

“I know this is kinda gross, but I’m going to take Philadelphia +8.5 here. I am. Say what you want. The Eagles have been ahead or within one possession in the fourth quarter every game this year. They gave Pittsburgh and Baltimore everything. They came back and covered against Seattle. I’m not talking about winning games, I’m talking about covering the spread. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a dog of 6+ points. Their defense has 36 sacks; only the Steelers have more. What do we know about the Packers? They don’t like to be uncomfortable. Philadelphia gets in your face and puts pressure on your quarterback. It’s going to be an ugly game.”

Actual final score: Packers 30, Eagles 16

Did Colin win? No

Buffalo Bills vs. San Francisco 49ers (+1.5)

Colin’s pick: 49ers

Colin’s final score: 49ers 26, Bills 23

Cowherd said:

“The number has moved some. The Bills’ rushing defense is not great, and the Niners are getting healthier. You can run the football on Buffalo. Buffalo is traveling all the way west again. With Garoppolo, they threw for 230 ypg; with Nick Mullens, they throw for 270 ypg. The season is on the line for San Francisco. Buffalo is a playoff team, they have room.”

Actual final score: Bills 34, 49ers 24

Did Colin win? No

Did Colin Cowherd Win? He’s Back In The Win Column, But Boom Bet Fizzles Again

Colin Cowherd is over the underdogs in Week Seven, putting four of his five Blazin’ 5 NFL picks on favorites to cover and the Steelers to upset the Titans.

Is Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 heating up?

He posted his first winning record since Week Three.

Cowherd rode the favorites and the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers to a 3-2 Week Seven record. His “Boom Bet” fell short when the Arizona Cardinals upset the Seattle Seahawks in overtime.

When he made the picks, Cowherd said:

“I am generally not someone who takes favorites, but the league is changing and there is more offense. Gotta move around. The Rams pick, most of the wise guys in Vegas probably hate it, but I think Chicago lacks juice.”

His prognostication proved to be correct as the Chicago Bears fell flat on Monday Night Football.

Green Bay Packers (-3.5) vs. Houston Texans

Cowherd’s pick: Packers

Colin’s final score: Packers 40, Texans 23

Cowherd said:

“Favorite pick of the week. I like good teams who get humiliated on national TV games. They are focused, and they’ll play great this week. The Packers have two turnovers all year, both against Tampa’s defense. The Texans’ defense is horrific. They’ve given up more big plays than any NFL defense this year. Packers hammer the Texans. “

Actual final score: Packers 35, Texans 20

Did Colin win? Yes

Pittsburgh Steelers (+2) vs. Tennessee Titans

Colin’s pick: Steelers

Colin’s final score: Steelers 28, Titans 23

Cowherd said:

“I have a rule: Take a really good team getting points. I’m taking the Steelers to win. The Titans have two big issues. Their left tackle Taylor Lewan is out, and you do not want to be missing a Pro Bowl-level left tackle against the Steelers. The Titans are last in the NFL on third down defense. They don’t have a pass rush and teams extend drives. Big Ben is having an extraordinary season — his best completion percentage, passer rating and touchdown to INT ratio.”

Actual final score: Steelers 27, Titans 24

Did Colin win? Yes

Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints (-7.5)

Colin’s pick: Saints

Colin’s final score: Saints 30, Panthers 23

Cowherd said:

“That’s a hook number. Everybody usually likes the team getting 7.5. I like veteran quarterbacks and great coaches off a bye. They are 3-1 in those games. Drew Brees is completing 71% of this throws and leads the NFL. Carolina’s defense has five sacks, fewest in the NFL. The Saints have a had a couple of weeks to prepare for Teddy Bridgewater, a quarterback they practiced against for years. Carolina is getting better but is limited defensively.”

Actual final score: Saints 27, Panthers 24

Did Colin win? No

Seattle Seahawks (-3.5) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Boom Bet: $20 bet pays $50 — Russell Wilson has two or more passing TDs and Seahawks to win

Colin’s pick: Seahawks

Colin’s final score: Seahawks 34, Cardinals 24

Cowherd said:

“Seattle off a bye is 4-0. Arizona, a young inconsistent team, is on a short week. A young team who beat the Dallas Cowboys everyone is telling ‘You the man!’ Russell Wilson has owned no team in the NFL like Arizona. He’s played them eight times and only lost once, and it was his first NFL start.”

Actual final score: Cardinals 37, Seahawks 34

Did Colin win? No

Chicago Bears vs. Los Angeles Rams (-6)

Colin’s pick: Rams

Colin’s final score: Rams 28, Bears 20

Cowherd said:

“I’m the last living American who likes the Rams. Chicago is limited offensively. We thought when they got Nick Foles they would be better. The problem is he’s has one or more interception in five straight games. That’s the longest stretch in the NFL. The Bears’ offense is 27th in PPG and 28th in total YPG, yards per play and rush YPG. The Rams’ defense is better than people think. They’ve moved Jalen Ramsey all over the field. I know no one likes Jared Goff, but he has the highest passer rating of anyone in the fourth quarter. I think it’s a close, ugly game.”

Actual final score: Rams 24, Bears 10

Did Colin win? Yes

Blazin’ 5 Week 7 record: 3-2

Did Colin Cowherd Win? Another One-Win Week and a Busted Boom Bet

Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 NFL picks at Fox Bet Sportsbook went down in flames in Week Five, with only the Vikings covering for him (vs. the Seahawks).

Maybe he should call it the “Not-So-Hot 1.” Colin Cowherd’s Blazin 5′ turned in another one-win week of picks.

Despite swearing off betting the Atlanta Falcons after Week One, Cowherd chose them as his “Boom Bet,” which allows Fox Bet Sportsbook users to quadruple their winnings (if the bet wins). It was also the second straight week his “Boom Bet” didn’t only fail to cover, but lost outright.

It was a rough week for Cowherd, but he will be taking consolation in and bragging about correctly predicting the final score of the Minnesota Vikings vs. Seattle Seahawks game.

Cowherd changes tune on Wentz

Cowherd ripped Carson Wentz for wearing his hat backward during a press conference. After the Eagles beat the 49ers, he called Wentz “Houdini.”

He actually stood up for Wentz and turned his taunts to an unnamed reporter, who asked head coach Doug Pederson if he would consider benching Wentz.

“Carson Wentz is in first place. For the third year in a row, he’s dealing with absolutely nightmarish personnel. If Wentz’s career was a cooking show, it would be ‘Chopped.’ He has to take these weird ingredients and make a meal out of it every week. That’s what he’s done in a city that is not very forgiving, and the pressure is enormous.”

Hot takes from Colin Cowherd this week

The Dallas Cowboys are “outdated” and a “bad team.” (The Cowboys are 1-3. Their Super Bowl odds at the start of the season were +1500, they are now +3000.)

“Brady is the greatest comeback QB of all time.” (Brady ranks second of all time for most fourth-quarter comebacks.)

Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy’s divorce is lopsided. Rodgers is 17-3 without him.

“Tom Brady is slightly better than Nick Foles, but Foles is way more clutch.”

Colin Cowherd’s 2020 Week 5 NFL picks

Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 airs on “The Herd” on Fridays at 1 p.m. EST. We break down his picks for you here and follow up on Monday with his results.

If Fox Bet users wager on Cowherd’s “Boom Bet” and it wins, they can quadruple their winnings.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons (-2.5)

BOOM BET. It has an added dimension to it this week. Colin’s Week Five Boom Bet is Matt Ryan to throw for 300+ yards in an Atlanta win. A $20 bet would bring back $70.

Cowherd’s pick: Falcons

Colin’s final score: Falcons 33, Panthers 27

Cowherd said:

“Matt Ryan versus Carolina in his last five home games is 5-0 and averages 342 ypg. Carolina’s defense is ranked 31st on third downs, they have the fewest sacks and the second-worst scoring defense. This is a bad defense. I don’t think Atlanta has quit on their coach. Their passing offense is still robust, and they are a desperate team. This is an easy one for me. I like Atlanta to score enough points on what I believe is the second-worst defense in the NFL.”

*Cowherd’s co-host Joy Taylor correctly pointed that out that he swore off betting on the Falcons after Week One.

“I like that bet, but you can’t quit them,” said Taylor.

Actual final score: Panthers 23, Falcons 16

Did Colin win? No

Jacksonville Jaguars (+6) vs. Houston Texans

Colin’s pick: Jaguars

Colin’s final score: Jaguars 27, Texans 26

Cowherd said:

“I couldn’t tell you the last time I took Jacksonville. Between Gardner Minshew and James Robinson, they’ve got a pretty pesky little offense. Teams that fire their coach midseason are 2-6 ATS the following week. They have real issues in Houston. Their offensive line is awful. Deshaun Watson is the most-sacked quarterback in the league, and he escapes sacks. I do not believe you can correct a bad offensive line in-season.”

Actual final score: Texans 30, Jaguars 14

Did Colin win? No

Los Angeles Rams vs. Washington (+7.5)

Colin’s pick: Washington

Colin’s final score: Washington 24, Rams 23

Cowherd said:

“Third East Coast road trip already for the Rams, who play rival San Francisco next week and could be looking ahead. There is a way to disrupt Sean McVay’s offense, and it’s pressure. Chase Young is back, and the Washington defense is top-three in sacks with 14. Kyle Allen isn’t great, but he is efficient, and when he started last year over Cam Newton, he went 4-0 in his first four starts until the world got film on him. Ron Rivera is telling you they can win the division with our defense, we just can’t make mistakes. Kyle Allen makes fewer mistakes. I’m calling an upset here. Good defensive lines have disrupted McVay’s running offenses since he’s been in LA.”

*Big public fade here. At FanDuel, the Rams have the highest percentage (86%) of handle for moneyline.

Actual final score: Rams 30, Washington 10

Did Colin win? No

Indianapolis Colts (-1) vs. Cleveland Browns

Colin’s pick: Colts

Colin’s final score: Colts 26, Browns 23

Cowherd said:

“Like the Colts, I love them. The Browns are coming off their biggest national TV win in a decade. The Colts defense leads the NFL in everything. The Browns’ three wins have come against teams whose records are 3-8-1. Their defense is awful, and Dallas couldn’t expose it at the right time. Rivers may be limited, but with this offensive line, he is completing almost 73% of his passes. The Colts have the better O-line, the better defense and Cleveland is highly emotional coming off that win against the Cowboys.”

Actual final score: Browns 32, Colts 23

Did Colin win? No

Minnesota Vikings (+7)  vs. Seattle Seahawks

Colin’s pick: Vikings

Colin’s final score: Seahawks 27, Vikings 26

Cowherd said:

“I know. Don’t bet against Russell Wilson. Chicago won last night. The Packers are winning. This is a must-win for Minnesota. Say what you want about Kirk Cousins on Monday Night Football, on Sunday Night Football, he’s been good. He’s 4-2 with 117 passer rating. Justin Jefferson is the next superstar wide receiver in this league. The Seahawks defense is atrocious. They are on pace to allow the most yards of any team in the Super Bowl era. This is an offense that is stacked with weapons. Russell Wilson does something miraculous to pull a ‘w’ out of an ‘l,’ but I’m going to take Minnesota +7.”

Actual final score: Seahawks 27, Vikings 26

Did Colin win? Yes (he even correctly predicted the final score)

Blazin’ 5 Week Five record: 1-4
