Maybe he should call it the “Not-So-Hot 1.” Colin Cowherd’s Blazin 5′ turned in another one-win week of picks.
Despite swearing off betting the Atlanta Falcons after Week One, Cowherd chose them as his “Boom Bet,” which allows Fox Bet Sportsbook users to quadruple their winnings (if the bet wins). It was also the second straight week his “Boom Bet” didn’t only fail to cover, but lost outright.
It was a rough week for Cowherd, but he will be taking consolation in and bragging about correctly predicting the final score of the Minnesota Vikings vs. Seattle Seahawks game.
Cowherd changes tune on Wentz
Cowherd ripped Carson Wentz for wearing his hat backward during a press conference. After the Eagles beat the 49ers, he called Wentz “Houdini.”
He actually stood up for Wentz and turned his taunts to an unnamed reporter, who asked head coach Doug Pederson if he would consider benching Wentz.
“Carson Wentz is in first place. For the third year in a row, he’s dealing with absolutely nightmarish personnel. If Wentz’s career was a cooking show, it would be ‘Chopped.’ He has to take these weird ingredients and make a meal out of it every week. That’s what he’s done in a city that is not very forgiving, and the pressure is enormous.”
Hot takes from Colin Cowherd this week
The Dallas Cowboys are “outdated” and a “bad team.” (The Cowboys are 1-3. Their Super Bowl odds at the start of the season were +1500, they are now +3000.)
“Brady is the greatest comeback QB of all time.” (Brady ranks second of all time for most fourth-quarter comebacks.)
Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy’s divorce is lopsided. Rodgers is 17-3 without him.
“Tom Brady is slightly better than Nick Foles, but Foles is way more clutch.”
Colin Cowherd’s 2020 Week 5 NFL picks
Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 airs on “The Herd” on Fridays at 1 p.m. EST. We break down his picks for you here and follow up on Monday with his results.
If Fox Bet users wager on Cowherd’s “Boom Bet” and it wins, they can quadruple their winnings.
Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons (-2.5)
BOOM BET. It has an added dimension to it this week. Colin’s Week Five Boom Bet is Matt Ryan to throw for 300+ yards in an Atlanta win. A $20 bet would bring back $70.
Cowherd’s pick: Falcons
Colin’s final score: Falcons 33, Panthers 27
Cowherd said:
“Matt Ryan versus Carolina in his last five home games is 5-0 and averages 342 ypg. Carolina’s defense is ranked 31st on third downs, they have the fewest sacks and the second-worst scoring defense. This is a bad defense. I don’t think Atlanta has quit on their coach. Their passing offense is still robust, and they are a desperate team. This is an easy one for me. I like Atlanta to score enough points on what I believe is the second-worst defense in the NFL.”
*Cowherd’s co-host Joy Taylor correctly pointed that out that he swore off betting on the Falcons after Week One.
“I like that bet, but you can’t quit them,” said Taylor.
Actual final score: Panthers 23, Falcons 16
Did Colin win? No
Jacksonville Jaguars (+6) vs. Houston Texans
Colin’s pick: Jaguars
Colin’s final score: Jaguars 27, Texans 26
Cowherd said:
“I couldn’t tell you the last time I took Jacksonville. Between Gardner Minshew and James Robinson, they’ve got a pretty pesky little offense. Teams that fire their coach midseason are 2-6 ATS the following week. They have real issues in Houston. Their offensive line is awful. Deshaun Watson is the most-sacked quarterback in the league, and he escapes sacks. I do not believe you can correct a bad offensive line in-season.”
Actual final score: Texans 30, Jaguars 14
Did Colin win? No
Los Angeles Rams vs. Washington (+7.5)
Colin’s pick: Washington
Colin’s final score: Washington 24, Rams 23
Cowherd said:
“Third East Coast road trip already for the Rams, who play rival San Francisco next week and could be looking ahead. There is a way to disrupt Sean McVay’s offense, and it’s pressure. Chase Young is back, and the Washington defense is top-three in sacks with 14. Kyle Allen isn’t great, but he is efficient, and when he started last year over Cam Newton, he went 4-0 in his first four starts until the world got film on him. Ron Rivera is telling you they can win the division with our defense, we just can’t make mistakes. Kyle Allen makes fewer mistakes. I’m calling an upset here. Good defensive lines have disrupted McVay’s running offenses since he’s been in LA.”
*Big public fade here. At FanDuel, the Rams have the highest percentage (86%) of handle for moneyline.
Actual final score: Rams 30, Washington 10
Did Colin win? No
Indianapolis Colts (-1) vs. Cleveland Browns
Colin’s pick: Colts
Colin’s final score: Colts 26, Browns 23
Cowherd said:
“Like the Colts, I love them. The Browns are coming off their biggest national TV win in a decade. The Colts defense leads the NFL in everything. The Browns’ three wins have come against teams whose records are 3-8-1. Their defense is awful, and Dallas couldn’t expose it at the right time. Rivers may be limited, but with this offensive line, he is completing almost 73% of his passes. The Colts have the better O-line, the better defense and Cleveland is highly emotional coming off that win against the Cowboys.”
Actual final score: Browns 32, Colts 23
Did Colin win? No
Minnesota Vikings (+7) vs. Seattle Seahawks
Colin’s pick: Vikings
Colin’s final score: Seahawks 27, Vikings 26
Cowherd said:
“I know. Don’t bet against Russell Wilson. Chicago won last night. The Packers are winning. This is a must-win for Minnesota. Say what you want about Kirk Cousins on Monday Night Football, on Sunday Night Football, he’s been good. He’s 4-2 with 117 passer rating. Justin Jefferson is the next superstar wide receiver in this league. The Seahawks defense is atrocious. They are on pace to allow the most yards of any team in the Super Bowl era. This is an offense that is stacked with weapons. Russell Wilson does something miraculous to pull a ‘w’ out of an ‘l,’ but I’m going to take Minnesota +7.”
Actual final score: Seahawks 27, Vikings 26
Did Colin win? Yes (he even correctly predicted the final score)
