Winter is coming.
So is hockey season, too.
FanDuel Sportsbook is getting everyone ready by releasing more than 130 betting options for the upcoming season.
Pennsylvania’s two NHL teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers, also appear in a number of bets with a wide array of player futures.
Penguins, Flyers offer good returns on Stanley Cup
At press time, both the Penguins and Flyers would provide excellent returns if they were to win the Stanley Cup. Pittsburgh is +2500 to win Lord Stanley’s Cup. Philadelphia would pay out even greater odds at +3600. According to FanDuel, the Stanley Cup favorites are:
- Tampa Bay (+700)
- Las Vegas (+1,050)
- Washington (+1500)
FanDuel also has season point totals
FanDuel’s extensive hockey posting also included over/under wagers on season point totals for all NHL teams. The Penguins season total is set at 93.5 points. The Flyers number is set at 89.5. The Tampa Bay Lightning have the highest total at 109.5.
Bettors can also wager on conference and division winners. Pittsburgh is +300 to win the division and +1600 to win the Eastern Conference. The Flyers have a division price of +1100 and conference odds of +2200.
Numerous player futures available as well
The bounty of betting options extends well beyond our home-state teams. Bettors can wager on player point totals for the season, as well as award winners and team or division-leading scorers.
Connor McDavid (+390) is the favorite for the Hart Trophy, which is essentially the NHL’s MVP Award. Penguins star Sidney Crosby is +750 and teammate Evgeni Malkin is +2900.
Philadelphia Flyer Claude Giroux is a whopping +6000 for the Hart Trophy. Giroux is also the favorite to be the Flyers leading scorer at +140. Sean Couturier is next at +170.
For Pittsburgh, Crosby is a heavy favorite to be the leading scorer at -290. Malkin (+430) and Jake Guentzel (+850) are next.
Head-to-head betting on Penguins/Flyers
One of the more interesting bets available on FanDuel is a head-to-head option based on which team records the most points for the season. In the Penguins-Flyers faceoff, Pittsburgh is -156 while Philadelphia is +128. In a face-off with the Washington Capitals, the Penguins are +124 while the Caps are +150.
There are also a healthy array of season props, including which team will have the most goals for the entire season. The Tampa Bay Lightning is the favorite at +340. The Penguins are +3100 and the Flyers return +4000.
Other sportsbooks will offer NHL futures as well
It’s a safe bet that many of the other Pennsylvania online sportsbooks will offer their lengthy list of NHL futures.
And the real winners are the fans, who will have unprecedented access to NHL betting options this season.
Winter is coming and preseason hockey has already started. The regular season begins on Oct. 2.
For players across Pennsylvania, it’s never been easier to get a bet in.
