October brings a change of the season and new Halloween-themed PA Lottery games, but one thing remains constant: players are hitting big jackpots across the Keystone State. Three prizes of $1 million or more top the list of this month’s largest payouts.
New games are fun to try, but so far this month the classic draw games have rewarded players the most.
PA Lottery players win big in October
Starting the month off right, a Cumberland County player hit the Match 6 jackpot of $1.3 million on Oct. 1. A store in Lemoyne sold the big winning ticket. Glenn Miller’s Beer and Soda Warehouse at 1029 Market St. got a $10,000 bonus for selling it.
Just a few days later on Oct. 4, two tickets hit the soaring Cash 5 With Quick Cash jackpot. Players in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties split the prize of more than $1.08 million, taking home $541,349 each, before withholding.
The winning tickets were sold by Hatfield Market, located at 304 Union St. in Hatfield, and ACME Markets at 8200 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia. Each retailer also scored a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning tickets.
By Oct. 20, five more Cash 5 jackpots were awarded, ranging from $200,000 to $400,000. As for Match 6, the jackpot on that game has again climbed over $1 million this week.
PA Lottery scratch-off sold in a little town paid big bucks
Winning tickets can turn up anywhere. In this case, a Sheetz store in Littlestown, Adams County, sold a $1 million-winning scratch-off this month. The lucky winner nabbed the final top prize on the $20 ticket. The ticket in question was the $1,000,000 Cash King, which has crowned five $1 million winners since it was released.
The Sheetz store at 35 East King St. received a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
A Pittsburgh-area player won a jackpot from home
Another PA Lottery winner this month didn’t even have to leave home to hit it big. Playing online at PA’s iLottery, an Allegheny County player won over $419,000 on a single $5 wager. The game that awarded the prize was Premier Jackpot, a connect-style instant game with one progressive jackpot.
A number of other PA Lottery online games offer progressive jackpots. The largest online jackpot currently hovers over $1.5 million. That prize could be won on either PA Big Cash Multiplier, PA Big Money Wheel or PA Big Winner Spectacular. Lottery players in the state can play online games on a computer, tablet or mobile device.
Huge multi-state jackpots steal the limelight
The skyrocketing Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots caused a spike in ticket sales this month, and that has meant more winners. Two Mega Millions tickets sold in California and Florida took that game’s $502 million jackpot on Oct. 14, but the more popular game in PA is Powerball.
Powerball hasn’t seen a jackpot winner since Aug. 3, when a PA Lottery player in Washington County hit the grand prize. So far in October, the largest prize awarded by Powerball in PA was $250,000 on Oct. 15.
A lucky player in Venango County matched four of the five white balls, plus the red Powerball, in that Saturday night drawing. The large prize total was made possible by the rare 5x Power Play multiplier. Without the $1 Power Play option on their ticket, the prize would have been $50,000.
In the drawing on Oct. 10, two PA tickets won $100,000 by matching four of the five white balls, plus the Powerball. Both tickets had the Power Play add-on and benefited from the 2x multiplier. Those tickets were sold in Dauphin and Washington counties.
