Colin Cowherd returned last week with his Blazin’ 5 Picks, starting the 2022 NFL season with a 3-2 record

Each Friday, Cowherd makes five picks from the upcoming week’s slate of games on his sports talk radio show, The Herd, at 1 p.m. ET. We will record them all season long, following up each Monday to see how he did. You can then decide whether to take his picks or fade them through PA sportsbooks as the season progresses.

Colin Cowherd’s Blazin’ 5 record

Since 2019, Colin Cowherd has been 122-127-7, including Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season. Last year was his roughest season, though he has only had one winning year of three:

  • 2022: 7-3-0
  • 2021: 37-43-2
  • 2020: 40-41-2
  • 2019: 42-41-3

Week 1 wins

  • Detroit Lions (+4) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (final score: Eagles won 38-35)
  • Houston Texans (+7) vs. Indianapolis Colts (final score: Tie 20-20)
  • Minnesota Vikings (+1.5) vs. Green Bay Packers (final score: Vikings won 23-7)

Week 1 losses

  • Jacksonville Jaguars (+2.5) at Washington Commanders (final score: Commanders won 28-22)
  • Carolina Panthers (-.5) vs. Cleveland Browns (final score: Browns won 26-24)

Colin Cowherd Blazin’ 5 2022 Week 2 NFL picks

“It’s warm. This seat is sizzling off the Blazin’ 5 last week. There are weeks I really like my picks, and then there’s this week where I love my picks. I’m very excited,” said Cowherd to open his Week 2 Blazin’ 5 picks.

Washington Commanders at Detroit Lions (-1.5)

Cowherd pick: Lions

Final score prediction: Lions 27, Commanders 21

Cowherd said:

“I like Detroit here at home -1.5. By the way, they’re 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games, so they’re a good cover team. And people forget that Jared Goff, at home, at least in Detroit, has been great. 97 passer rating, 69% completion percentage. He’s been a great home quarterback. Doesn’t have a great arm, [but] no wind inside.”

“[The] Commanders defense allowed almost 6.5 yards a play to the Jaguars with a second-year quarterback and a bad O-line. Detroit’s got a really good O-line and lots of weapons.”

Final score: Lions 36, Commanders 27

New England Patriots (-2.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers

Cowherd pick: Patriots

Final score prediction: Patriots 24, Steelers, 20

Cowherd said:

“I’m gonna take the Patriots at -2.5, a slight favorite at Pittsburgh. First of all, the Patriots haven’t started 0-2 in 21 years. But beyond that, Belichick has really been strong against Pittsburgh and Tomlin. He holds them to about 18 points per game. Mac Jones won six roadies last year, don’t worry about that.”

“What I worry about is the Steelers. TJ Watt out, Najee Harris not healthy. And let’s be honest, Trubisky, they got a lead, and they basically clung to life. He averaged 5.1 yards per attempt – with those receivers. The coaching staff doesn’t trust this quarterback. I think Belichick’s gonna own Trubisky, it’s gonna be defense mostly, and the Patriots get a win 24-20.”

Final score: Patriots 17, Steelers 14

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) at New Orleans Saints

Cowherd pick: Saints

Final score prediction: Saints 27, Buccaneers 24

Cowherd said:

“Hey, listen. Brady’s 0-4 against the Saints for a reason – they got really good defensive players. I like the Saints to win here. They’re getting points at home.”

“Jameis Winston, for all his quirkiness, was great in the second half. He’s got Michael Thomas back, [and] he had five catches. He’s got Jarvis Landry now. That’s a really good No. 2 wide receiver.”

“And the Bucs offense: O-line issues, banged up at receiver. Michael Evans, Chris Godwin, Julio Jones, Russell Gage all banged up this week, along with their offensive line. And I get the Saints gettin’ points at home?”

Final score: Buccaneers 20, Saints 10

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (-9.5)

Cowherd pick: Packers

Final score prediction: Packers 31, Bears 20

Cowherd said:

“I hate big favorites, but I think Green Bay -9.5 is the big favorite I most love this weekend. Listen, they’re 9-0 after a loss under LaFleur. Rodgers has owned the Bears, 22-2 in his career.”

“But here’s the thing. The Bears got outgained by the 49ers by 130 yards. Their offensive line ranked 31st, according to PFF. They averaged fewer yards per play than any team in the league and had the fewest yards…Chicago’s not a good team.”

Final score: Packers 27, Bears 10

Did Colin Cowherd win? Yes

Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5)

Cowherd pick: Eagles

Final score prediction: Eagles 28, Vikings 24

Cowherd said:

“Love the Eagles but not Kirk Cousins on Monday Night. I’m takin’ the Eagles here.”

“The Eagles scored 38 points [in Week 1]. They had no giveaways. It’s a productive offense. They had the most big plays in the NFL last season. Do you realize that? One hundred twenty-eight. It’s a big-play offense… a handful [for defenses]. It’s hard to duplicate in practice.”

“And Kirk Cousins is 2-9 in his career on Monday night, and the Vikings are coming off a massive, prime-time TV, divisional win. They pull back, go on the road. The Eagles are going to ball-control to death, so Justin Jefferson’s going to watch more of this game than he’s gonna play.”

“I like the Eagles to win a wildly entertaining game, though, 28-24, on Monday Night Football.”

Final score: Eagles 24, Vikings 7
