After entering the Pennsylvania online casino conversation in July 2021, PlayStar Casino continues to eye its launch in the race to become the 19th operator in the state to open for business.
Nearly a year ago, PlayStar announced a partnership with Caesars that would give it market access within Pennsylvania. That news followed in the footsteps of the company joining forces with Oceans Casino in Atlantic City to enter the New Jersey casino market first and foremost.
PlayStar NJ is expected to go live in mid-2022, with PlayStar PA coming sometime later this year. Keep reading for a preview of what you can expect when PlayStar Casino PA becomes operational.
Editor’s note: We will continue to update this article with the latest PlayStar Casino PA news until launch.
PlayStar to deliver ‘an online casino experience like no other’
PlayStar is a Swedish company that has identified the US as the fastest-growing iGaming market worldwide. Its casino arm was founded by Joel Wikell, who also founded Boss Media and several other Swedish companies, as well as Adam Noble, formerly of Play’n Go.
On its website, the company’s stated mission is to offer “an online casino experience like no other,” with the belief that there are gaps in the US online casino market’s current landscape.
As such, it will look to elevate its players’ gaming experience through engagement, exemplary customer service, and personalization features. All of these offerings are backed by market research and analysis. They intend to “make players feel like they are the star of the show.”
Game offerings and information for PlayStar Casino PA
PlayStar is partnered with Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) to provide the platform for its software, a global company recently named Best Casino Affiliate at the 2022 IGB Affiliate Awards.
Its claim that the big players such as BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings have gaps in their current set of games is undoubtedly intriguing. However, the site is not yet live in any US-facing market, and the company has not released further details regarding how it will differentiate itself from the rest.
When the site does go live, it should have an array of slots and table games at a minimum. Additional details on live dealer games, progressive jackpots, welcome bonuses, and rewards programs have not been announced.
New Jersey’s launch will provide a blueprint
In the big picture, PlayStar is still moving quickly from when it was called a “new casino offering” in Feb. 2021.
When PlayStar does open in NJ, it will provide the first glimpse into its official list of games and promotions. At that time, players will also be able to see all the buzz regarding its unique, personalized software.
If all goes according to plan in New Jersey, then Pennsylvania should expect a similar rollout when its time comes.
When will PlayStar Casino PA go live?
PlayStar Casino PA is expected to go live sometime in 2022, but is still awaiting licensure from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board after submitting its iGaming application on Dec. 27, 2021. Its platform partner, GiG, has yet to submit an accompanying application, which could delay the process.
Other prospects, such as WynnBET and Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG), have also been waiting for approval (and for longer). However, Wynn appears to be more focused on Massachusetts for the time being, and GNOG was recently acquired by DraftKings, which is already operational in PA.
Of course, PlayStar has previously announced that Pennsylvania will be its second market. This means it should launch in New Jersey first, which it still has yet to do. New estimates for New Jersey operations are mid-2022, and both PlayStar and GiG are already licensed in the Garden State.
The company has also stated it wishes to enter as many domestic markets as possible in the future. But for now, players will just have to wait and hope the process moves quickly.
