The dust has started to settle on another season of the National Football League, and with Major League Baseball and the Players Association involved in CBA discussions, what are sports fans to do? Well, the folks at BetRivers Sportsbook offer a suggestion in the form of the “World’s Fastest Ball Sport,” Jai-Alai.
Magic City Jai-Alai has teamed up with BetRivers to create a brand new concept that will introduce this sport in a whole new light to a whole new fan base. This unique and innovative concept, known as the 2022 Battle Court season, began on Monday, February 14. Battle Court is a brand new head-to-head concept that gives fans a chance to enjoy Jai-Alai action like never before.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Magic City, Rush Street Interactive, and SeventySix Capital, fans have the opportunity to enjoy this new sport and bet on all the action that comes with it. You can legally bet on Jai-Alai on BetRivers in 7 different states, and yes, that includes Pennsylvania!
What is Jai-Alai?
Around since the 14th century, Jai-Alai is a unique take on-court games such as tennis and racquetball.
Players bounce a hard rubber ball off a wall using a wicker Cesta. The Cesta is a long curved wicker scoop that is strapped to a player’s arm, used to catch and throw the ball. With the length of the Cesta, balls can reach speeds of up to 130 mph.
The fronton, or court, consists of walls on the front, back, and left.
The rules of the game are fairly simple when you get down to the nuts and bolts of it:
- Players serve the ball against the front wall and must land within the designated serving area
- The opponent must catch and return the ball before it hits the floor a second time.
- The ball must be caught and returned in one continuous motion.
- The object: serve the ball with enough speed and spin that your opponent cannot return it.
- Play continues until the ball is missed or goes out of bounds.
- Interference occurs when a player cannot get out of his opponent’s way. Play is stopped and the point is played over.

SeventySix Capital Helping Magic City Build From “Ground Up”

Thanks to the operational support efforts of the SeventySix Capital Sports Advisory team, multi-year content distribution deals with FTF Sports and Triple B Media were agreed upon. They will continue to work closely with Magic City to prepare the young league to not only succeed but continue to thrive in an industry that grows bigger every day.
Dan Bravato, President of our SeventySix Capital Sports Advisory, is excited to take Magic City Jai-Alai to the next level, and beyond.
“The entire framework of a league in 2022 must be different than before.” Dan explains, “Newer opportunities are being incorporated into league offerings, including streaming vs. linear distribution, betting operator integration, and influencer-led ownership groups. We are excited to help Magic City build this from the ground up and meet the sports industry where it is heading.”
Magic City Jai-Alai
Founded in 2018 and offering an innovative take on the traditional game, Magic City Jai-Alai has run more than 4,000 matches. The league is now partnered with Rush Street Interactive (BetRivers), making it possible to bet on the sport of Jai-Alai in 7 states, including Pennsylvania. With Battle Court being a brand new concept, this season will be a bit different. The league has been divided into four squads that will go head-to-head in singles and doubles matches.
“We are thrilled to feature the world’s fastest ball sport in a team setting that will allow fans to root for their favorite players and team over the course of the eight-week inaugural season. This will take jai-alai to a new level and enable fans to engage in a way they were never able to before the advent of Battle Court.”
Said Scott Savin, Chief Operating Officer for Magic City Jai-Alai, in a press release.
Battle Court, much like tennis, will require a player or doubles team to win two out of three sets, each played to six points. However, there will be no advantage or deuce like in tennis, and if the score is five to five, the next point wins and a new set begins.
