Betway online casino could soon be licensed for iGaming in Pennsylvania but that wouldn’t mean a launch is necessarily imminent. The same goes for a Betway online sportsbook in PA. The company’s formal applications went before the PA Gaming Control Board this week.
Even if approved, the company still needs to secure market access into the commonwealth through a retail operator. There are a few possibilities for that relationship.
The latest on Betway Casino in PA
On Wednesday, the PGCB met to consider the iGaming and sports betting license applications of the Digital Gaming Corporation. That company intends to do business as Betway in PA, as it currently does in Colorado, and has imminent designs on doing in New Jersey.
As of Thursday morning, both the PA online casino application and PA sports betting application are listed as pending. PA will be among the initial North American markets for the Malta-based company.
Between iGaming, online poker, and sportsbook products, Betway runs in 20 countries globally right now. It has grown in popularity in Europe through sponsorships of prominent football clubs.
When the time comes, it will surely be ready to offer a competitive online gaming experience for Pennsylvanians. How soon might that be? That is contingent upon a land-based partner.
Betway’s path into PA still a mystery
While licensure is important, Betway will have to secure a skin for iGaming and sports betting from a casino license-holder in PA.
“I do not know if Betway has finalized an agreement for either iGaming or sports wagering,” said Doug Harbach, Director of Communications for the PGCB. “They can obtain a license without a partnership with a casino but cannot operate without one. Live! Philadelphia is not currently operating an online site for sports wagering, though they have a license and operate a retail location. Same with Live! Pittsburgh which can, too, as a Category 4. Hollywood Casino Morgantown is operating the BetMGM online site through their retail. But the other Penn National Category 4 property in York has not launched anything. The two other Category 4’s have not been licensed, so would not be able to offer any gaming yet.”
Securing skins is probably the primary focus for the business in PA now that the license applications are officially before the board. Once that’s secured and approved, the work can begin to get the products live in PA. Then, the work to become a serious contender for market share begins.
What PA gamblers can expect from Betway
As you would expect from a company with such a robust global presence, it offers the full complement of online casino options. Slots, table games, and video poker are available via either desktop or its mobile app.
Within the catalog are hundreds of popular slot titles from IGT, NetEnt, and Scientific Games. Some of those slots offer progressive jackpots. Betway pushes its Blackjack titles most prevalently among its table game options.
When the time comes to launch in PA, gamblers should expect some competitive welcome bonuses. That launch isn’t imminent yet but with a forthcoming license approval, it could soon be just a matter of time.
